September 2025

COMMANDER’S CORNER

Gee, what a nice break from a hot dry August to a cooler September!  Our whole three-day Labor Day Holiday was just perfect for enjoying the outdoors.  The continuing dryness is a growing concern.  A silver lining to the dryness is that our mowing expenses go to zero!

The smaller building on your left as you enter our Post property is what we call the Annex.  It was the original Post 46.  After our current facility was built with Bingo money, the Annex fell into disrepair.  When our Bingo ops was terminated, we refurbished the Annex and leased it to the Holland Group.  They are a medical group that works with disadvantaged children and adults.  It works perfectly for them and for us.  They maintain it both inside and outside.  They also have furniture and garden areas to the north of the Annex to utilize in their programs.  The Belcher Pavilion is the only building and space on that side of the parking lot our members can be in.  Only a couple of our Post members go to the Annex, by invitation, to work on maintenance issues.  The rest of our members need to stay away and respect the privacy they are paying for.  We take great pride in the Annex mission, and it has brought us Legion praise.

In last month’s issue of the Commander’s Corner, I listed several charities we made recent contributions to.  Thanks to Sr. Vice Miller, our Post web page now displays the recent thank you cards and letters from these recipients. Go to the home page and look half way down:  under News and Current Events: “2025 Donation Thank you notes ..NEW!”..   It is a real source of pride for our Post to be able to make impactful differences in our local community charities and activities.

We recently completed the installation of the heat pump for the non-smoking section of Charitable Gaming.  Also, our painters completed a recoat of the roof paint/sealer.  New Exit signs are being installed, also. We recently completed the installation of more security cameras allowing comprehensive coverage of our Post property.

While you are on the Post web page, click on the Calendar page.  Your Social Club hosts two or three bands each month.  We have September, October, and November currently displayed.  Watch for our free membership Thanksgiving Dinner to appear in November.  It’s a free family dinner.  Plan to attend. Also, do you want some company to watch football?  It is always on in the Social Club.

I cancelled the September membership meeting as it occurs the day after Labor Day.  The next membership meeting is 7 October 2025 at 7 PM.

Respectfully,

Tony A. Cromwell
