The complete repainting of our Post concluded with the Flag Pole and Belcher Pavilion being repainted. The Hall dais was rebuilt, carpeted, and repainted. Additionally, an American Legion Emblem was placed on the wall behind the dais for a very official looking platform. District 8 leadership first used it at our meeting on May 4. We received many compliments for the many improvements. We are currently repaving the parking lot as the weather permits. A generous member will be refinishing the Hall floor. The roof has been effectively sealed and repainted, exhibiting no indications of leakage.
On 4 May, District 8 successfully reelected its slate of officers during the scheduled meeting. A huge thank you to Ruby and her ladies for the district meal! It was excellent and enjoyed by all. The Auxiliary is being reformed under Ruby’s Crouch’s leadership and many of our Post ladies are excited to be a part of it. Our Legion Riders are standing down and reassessing their program. A lot of activities are planned at Camp Nelson for the coming Memorial Day on 26 May including the planting of flags.
We received our renewed charitable gaming license which goes into effect in July for one year. A big thanks to our treasurer Benda Ellis who updated the new application quickly with well-maintained records from last year! We’ve submitted our annual consolidated Post review to the department and national. Our yearly incorporated activity report and renewal fees were submitted to the Kentucky Secretary of State.
We completed the election of officers at this meeting for the next year. All current officers had been nominated to return to their offices at the last membership meeting. There were no additional nominations. Thus, the Adjutant cast 1 vote for each candidate. The Department of Ky and national were mailed the results of the elections. A delegation was identified to attend the annual convention in June in Louisville.
Post 46 sponsorship of the Burgin High School Baseball team, The Bull Dogs, is now in effect. The team was able to completely purchase all the items they needed (bats, baseballs, uniforms, etc.) to effectively compete in their sport. Coaches Chris Hankins and Robert Logue attended our membership meeting to update our membership on the huge positive effect this act of sponsorship meant to the team, their families, the school, and the community at large. The boys have adopted the Legion tenets of good sportsmanship, dedication, team pride, and teamwork to achieve their best results. Both coaches are veterans and now members of Post 46. Coach Hankins generously provided a team hoodie and inscribed baseball. Both items are now in the Social Club for further generate support for the Burgin team. The commander and the coach will meet from time to time to address further team needs. It appears that there are no local American Legion teams, so they will compete in their usual venues and their future uniforms will reflect the Legion and our Post. Please monitor our website for their team schedules and try to attend a game!
The next membership meeting is 6 May 2025 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
