March 2025

COMMANDER’S CORNER

Our members continue to seek the warmth and comfort of their Post in these wild swings of Winter/Spring weather. Our vendor added 4 more gaming machines in our non-smoking area. With improved air filtering in the Social Club, the Post is thriving.

A component of our Charitable Gaming is the charitable support of our local community. I am excited to examine the prospects of supporting the local Bergin high school. Two opportunities are evolving. One is supporting the building of an Amateur Radio station for their school Radio Club that can become a lab for their academic programs. Our Radio Club President and Sr Vice Cmdr. Miller are working closely with the school. I am meeting with their baseball coach to review sponsoring their baseball team. Amateur Radio and baseball are both mission elements of the American Legion.

Our Post IRS taxes were completed and accepted. Equipment for the heating/cooling of the west side offices and restroom is on order and installation is expected in the very near term. We are collecting the final bids on repainting the interior of the Post along with staining the new decking installed last summer. The Belcher Pavilion picnic tables will be included. It appears the painting can happen shortly after bid selection. The Hall floor will be refinished following the paining compliments of one of our generous Post members. Meantime, the repair of our Post meeting dais in the Post Hall is to be completed.

The March membership meeting was held on the 4th of March. While 5 of our group were unable to attend, we still enjoyed a good turn out and meeting. We thank Dennis Weiskircher for wearing two caps. He provided both the Service Officer and Chaplain functions very well. Thank you, Dennis! Post meeting, we enjoyed a member donated pot of chili along with pizza. Nest Sunday, a couple of our Post officers will attend the district 8 meeting in Lawrenceburg. The Post will host the district meeting in May.

As we look forward in time, we begin the annual Post officer nomination process next month at our Membership meeting. The Ky Department will hold its annual convention in May. The radio group is active on weekends working on the contests of the weekend. The Legion Riders and our Auxiliary group are quiet.

Enjoy our emerging Spring weather and stay alert for the danger it brings to us on occasion.

The next membership meeting is 1 April 2025 at 7 PM.

Respectfully,

Tony A. Cromwell
