We all start a new year and complete one. We reflect back on how last year went and the need for a corrective or steady course going forward. An incredibly busy and expensive time made the holidays fly past.
Your Post leadership uses the same reflective measures to ensure our Post is on a steady and sure course. Our Post is in a historic position of well-being. Financially and benefiting from significant rebuilding; it’s never been so good! It thrives on the integrity and very hard work of a small cadre of officers and contractors. Its dedicated and active membership fills and drives the Post with life, fun, and comradery!
Each member that moves on to our “Post Everlasting” is a loss for our Post and its members. Some of these members are foundational, leaving a remarkable absence. A recent loss is one of our Legionnaires that shared
his extensive knowledge of the VA and accounting to make a huge difference in our Post. Legionnaire Gene Klaus spent extended hours meeting with veterans to correct their benefits and enable their survivors to receive their benefits when they passed. Each of these lives were changed dramatically. He even spent time in western Ky helping those veterans affected by a tornado. Gene was a CPA in all but name and was of great benefit in that capacity. Our current successful Service Officer program owes much to Gene for his work. Gene was selfless and absolutely refused to allow me to formally recognize his work. Perhaps, I accomplish that desire here in black and white and in near permanency!
Through the fine work of Vice Commander Regena Carney, we worked with all our local and neighboring school districts to sponsor an Oratorical contest candidate and Boys/Girls State candidates. Historically, we enjoyed counsellor support and had little trouble in fielding several candidates. In recent years, the students have declined to participate. I think this lack of participation may be reflective of our past Covid experience and national social attributes. We rejoice in our past successes: Boys State Candidate Patton, now a graduate of the UK ROTC program and a US Army Second Lieutenant! We extend our sincere thanks to Regena for her
commitment to this program.
An irreplaceable person is Ruby Crouch. The past couple of months of holiday meals and parties are all a result of her natural personality, organizational skills, commitment to our Charitable Gaming success, and God
given cooking talents!! She is my Social Club manager, and I use her as such per our Legion rules. Please, give her a hug and thank her for all she does. She is the beating heart of this Post.
The next membership meeting is 6 February 2025 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
