COMMANDER’S CORNER
The adage that April and Springtime usher in new life, it is evident at our Post. A complete repainting is in progress along with the installation of heating/cooling units in the western wall rooms of the Post. Ruby picked out the color for the interior paints. Her judgement was excellent and the results stunning. Once complete, our Hall floor will be refinished. Additionally, all our new deck work and picnic tables are being stained.
The Hall stage is to be repaired and refinished in mid-April. The Hall ceiling will get a close review to replace damaged tiles. The Hall door emergency exit signs will be inspected and replaced as needed.
We met with the Bergin High School baseball coach to discuss our Post sponsoring their baseball team. The result was an agreement for Post 46 to sponsor their team. Our donation was sufficient for this year’s play. The players will be encouraged to think of their parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts who may have been veterans and adopt the Legion values of responsibility and good sportsmanship, etc. Interestingly, there is an active American Legion baseball league in this area. Sr Vice Miller lives between the Post and Bergin High
School and will oversee this sponsorship. He will review the prospects of getting more involved in the area American Legion league.
The Post held its April membership meeting on 1 April. Per our by-laws, we initiated the nomination of Post officers for the next year. We will conclude those nominations and the elections at the May 6th meeting. Notably, the current slate of officers expressed a willingness to continue to serve if nominated and elected.
The attending members quickly nominated and seconded each current officer to continue in their present office.
We just concluded the application work to renew our current gaming license. Kudos to our Finance Officer, Brenda, for maintaining a meticulous record of our past filings. As a result, we were able to make minor updates and resubmit the application. Getting that renewal completed enables us to focus on the coming
gaming quarterly report which Is some 16 pages in length! Our membership greatly enjoys playing the games and we are making an impact with our charitable donations!
We pray all our readers have escaped damage from this epic siege of rain and stormy weather! Your Post and its officials faired well with the blessings of our Lord. Please consider visiting your refurbished Post if you are one of our supporters who rarely get a chance to visit. If you have some family coming to visit, consider a
picnic using our picnic table under our Belcher Pavilion.
The next membership meeting is 6 May 2025 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
