We all enjoyed an excellent membership meeting on 6 October. Our Service Officer, Dennis returned after a two-month vacation in the Southwest. Dennis works tirelessly to support our veterans and has the technical expertise and tools to meet most any of their needs. He has over 500 veterans that rely on him. It was so rewarding to see how much good came from Dennis’s vacation! As a bonus Dennis bring along years of experience as a minister and serves as a back up Chaplain. I also was able to return and lead the meeting. The membership allowed me to remain seating for the entire meeting. With the help of a wheelchair and a couple of members to push it, we got in and out of the meeting fine. It was none the less…a homecoming for both Dennis and myself.
A deep tip of the hat to our Radio Group! In particular, the continuing consistently fine leadership of Andy Rose. Each year, the Radio Group supports the Bourbon Chase race. Its challenging in that it requires a number of members to work this project and the electronics suites needed to make it come together. Basically, as the runners enter the Danville area, their bib numbers are identified and transmitted to the display center downtown. Viewers can then identify when their runners will appear. The race participants and leadership all express their happiness with this information display. This year, 260 runners were scheduled to run with about 3700 people involved. Some 10 members of the Radio Club supported this project along with family members of some. Our Post and the American Legion receive excellent exposure from this type of public work. On behalf of the Legion and Post, Thank you, Andy! Also, thanks to each of the club members that donated their time to this project.
Our Post continues to run smoothly and efficiently. We just completed our third distribution of charitable donations. We have an annual budget of some $80K that we split up into 4 quarterly distributions. Our web site displays some of the many letters of appreciation. We reviewed our Kitchen and made several improvements. A new flooring really helped! We got rid of an old sink basin and used that space to reorder or kitchen utilities. A big thanks to Ruby for selecting the flooring and seeing the project through. Currently, we are planning on holding our Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner on 21 November. Plan to attend! It’s a great opportunity for all of us to get together and enjoy one very fine meal. It is part of your membership privilege. Also, continue to monitor the Post web site for a schedule of Post activities. We are adding a new activity thanks to a donation from one of our veterans. We are positioning a quality ping pong table in the Hall for members who enjoy that sport.
Please enjoy the fall weather. With all this el-nino and la-nino condition, hard to say what our weather will be in a couple of weeks! Come out and enjoy your Post! Its like new and has lots to offer!
The next membership meeting is on 3 November 2026 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
