June 2026 COMMANDER’S CORNER

COMMANDER’S CORNER

Hello June!! The emerging promise of warmer summer weather is refreshing with just occasional cooler periods. We also get a chance to refine our lawn mowing and landscaping skills. Hi!

At our membership meeting on 2 June, we updated the picture of our officers. Look for that picture on the tab “who we are” on our Post web page: Kypost46.org Our meeting enjoyed the larger than normal presence of members. An item of discussion was property tax breaks for disabled veterans. Look for info on this topic on our Post web site. Our members also voted to recognize the historic service of our Korean war veterans by paying for their ongoing American Legion/Post memberships. Our Post historically paid for our WW2 veterans, and we now add our Korean Veterans to that tribute of honor. Adjutant Craddock will be in touch with them. I also announced the successful renewing of our Charitable Gaming license. A more intense piece of work under the new revised gaming regulations.

Several of us attended the funeral of Sgt. Major LLoyd Harrison of the Green Berets. I talked about him at our membership meeting. He was a regular Tuesday morning visitor to our Post. A humble and courteous veteran hid a history of a soldier’s soldier. His selection to the Delta force testifies to the excellence of his military skills. I am proud to have recommended him for a “Quilt of Valor” which was awarded him and of which he was quite proud. Our Post has hosted several very highly decorated veterans. I know several must reside in the quiet solitude of our passive membership, supporting our Post with their continuing membership.

Burgin High School honored veterans on 9 May and presented Sr. Vice Harold Miller with an American Flag. Some students demonstrated the folding of a flag. See the picture on the home page of our Post web site.

There are several activities coming up over the next few months that will be honoring veterans and the 250th birthday of our nation. Post 46 will enter a July 4th parade in Danville with its historic first parade float. We thank our Auxiliary for taking the lead in creating this float. When it comes to artistry, best left to the ladies! Danville is going all out on this event with a scheduled fly over of military planes. Many of the Danville veterans will have their images displayed in banners suspended from the city light poles.

Thompson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore will honor some 250 veterans of whom 150 reside at the Center June 11-13th. Vice Cmdr. Regena Carney and Adjutant Susan Craddock will represent our Post. Thompson Hood is one of the large beneficiaries of our charity donations. It is gratifying to enable our lady veterans to get the honors they earned.

The Ky Department will host its annual convention in Louisville on June 18-20th. Again, Regena, Susan, and Sr. Vice Miller will represent our Post. The Legion’s National Convention will be held in Louisville from August 28 to Sept 3rd at the Kentucky international Convention Center.

The next membership meeting is on 7 July 2026 at 7 PM.

Respectfully,

Tony A. Cromwell, Post Commander
