COMMANDER’S CORNER
Gee, October is here! I usually get a sense of changes to come from the weather, but the continuing warmth and dryness of Summer continued right into October. Plus, as we age, it seems time goes so much quicker. Earning a living goes slowly and enjoying a hard-earned retirement is double-quick!
Our Post continues to be very active. We were honored to host a recent award ceremony by the Quilts of Valor. Some 5 veterans from Harrodsburg were to be recognized. These beautiful quilts were given by dedicated and loving artists. They recently relaxed some award criteria allowing other significant veterans to qualify.
We held our monthly membership meeting on 7 October. While a very successful meeting, it was overshadowed with the severe illness and hospitalization of Adjutant Craddock. Sr. Vice Miller took the minutes on her behalf. Susan continues in the VA hospital. She was the beneficiary of our meeting prayers and those provided by our Post Prayer list. I provided both August and September financial reports. We are at a record level in financial funding and our gaming continues to grow with help from the Cornhole groups. Our charitable giving is rapidly growing!
Our Post is co-sharing(with the VFW) the cost of updating the Boyle County Veteran KIA memorial in the front of the county courthouse. You may have noticed the beautiful fountain in the front corner of the lot. This new work will be on the east side expanding to the north part of that lot. Boyle County has demonstrated its commitment and appreciation of its veterans with the memorials at the Fair Grounds and the Court house. The Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for 7 November from 11:00 AM -2:00 PM at the Danville Armory. I strongly encourage all veterans to attend this nice luncheon. You park in the open field to the south of the Amory and golf carts will take you to registration and return you to your car when you finish. At registration, you will receive a ticket that is redeemable for a gift as you leave the facility. The gifts are from local businesses that want to express their appreciation.
Speaking of food, our Post will provide its annual Thanksgiving Dinner cooked by the Ladies of our Post! This meal is truly outstanding in size and featured foods. It is free and members can bring their families. It is scheduled for November 22 at 6:00 pm in our Post Hall. Plan to attend.
While you are on the Post web page, click on the Calendar page. Your Social Club hosts two or three bands each month. We have September, October, and November currently displayed. Also, do you want some company to watch football? It is always on in the Social Club.
The next membership meeting is 4 November 2025 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
