COMMANDER’S CORNER

January 2026

We enjoyed the first Membership meeting of the year this past Tuesday! Post 46 is at a historic financial and physical high level! A lot of information was exchanged from me to the members and the members to me and the group. Discomforts were dealt with. The Service Officer uses the Commander’s office to meet with needy veterans. He felt strongly, the Commanders chair was very uncomfortable. A motion to replace the chair was made and approved. Dennis was given guidance and asked to go pick out that new comfortable chair at the Post’s Office supply vendor. I want to mention the Post’s gratitude for the work of its fine officers.

E.G. Chaplain Gutenson regularly leads us in a solicited prayer opportunity so that we as a group can pray for each other. Dan does a masterful job and plays a key role in our Post. We are grateful for Dan as he travels from the Crab Orchard area to our Post to provide divine service! Thank you, Dan!!

At the membership meeting, we announced the retirement of Regena Carney from her downtown job. While she has always managed our Legion Oratorical program and the Boys and Girls state programs, she agreed to train alongside our Treasurer Brenda Ellis. Regena is familiar with the office software and will be able to back stop Brenda in case of illness or other absence. The Post accounting system is very detailed and legally sensitive to being kept up to date with the latest business transactions. We are deeply grateful to Regena for her dedication to our Post and Legion Mission. Thank you, Regena!!

I am also most grateful to Brenda for developing an impressive filing system and executive secretarial skill that enables me to manage the Post effectively. She set a record of submitting two complete quarterly 16-page Charitable gaming reports perfectly!! Thank you, Brenda!!

The awesome success of the Social Club is the heart of our Post! Our members relish its warm maternal environment led by our club manager of some 40 years’ service, Ruby Crouch. Keeping the Post, bands, karaoke, and gaming operations running 7 days a week with the heavy Charitable Gaming regulations takes a highly organized and affable person. Supplementing her are Joe Denny and Gary Ragland. All three have exceptional integrity and form a team that back-stops each other and provides a complimentary personality to the warm friendly environment that makes the club a rewarding place for our membership. Thank you, Ruby, Joe, and Gary!!

I will salute our Adjutant, Service Officer, and Sr Vice in my next Corner. I wanted to add the Post will be focusing on supporting the Burgin High School with its baseball team and Amateur Radio Class. We will also be providing extensive support to needy Charity organizations and other causes as we work through the year 2026.

We donated some $38k to this mission in the year 2025.

The next membership meeting is on 3 February 2026 at 7 PM.

Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
