November 2025
On 28 October, the Commander of the VFW and myself were hosted by the Boyle County Fiscal Court to attend their meeting and present our donation checks to the County Judge Executive for the KIA memorial. As part of that presentation, we provided an up-to-date overview of our organizations. They were very appreciative of those donations and of our community work.
On the 7th of November, Heritage Hospice hosted all the local veterans for the annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner at the Danville Armory. Heritage Hospice organizes this event and receives donations from local businesses as well as the veterans’ organizations. Post 46 donations are in the top tier, and we receive a nice appreciation plaque for display. Each attending veteran also turns in an attendance ticket for a door prize.
On 10 November, the VFW Commander and I were invited to attend a special Hall of Fame memorial and induction ceremony at the Boyle County Fiscal Court. I was asked to speak to the group about our thoughts regarding making donations to support the KIA project.

In some detail, I outlined to the court their long history of supporting our veterans with memorials and displays at the Fair Grounds and Court house grounds. Citizen and civil leader support examples of supporting veterans were identified. With that level of care established, it was an easy duty, honor, and requirement to make those contributions. I pointed out that the new Hall of Fame award memorial was additional testimony of the commitment of the Boyle Fiscal Court to its veterans. On behalf the American Legion, I congratulated Brig. Gen. Hunt and Jack Hendricks for their Hall of fame awards and subsequent induction in that hallowed organization.
Our Membership meeting on 4 November was particularly noteworthy in that our membership voted to help the Haven Care Center in Danville. They had suffered extensive damage due to backed up sewer water caused by heavy rains. Service Officer Weiskircher presented the letter that portrayed a vivid picture of extensive repairs and prayer delivered help. All that remained was an unpaid portion of the floor replacement costs.

The membership voted to pay the unpaid costs. Their Director, Tiffany came to our Post today to receive the check and extend hearty, divine, and extensive thanks to our Post membership. As it works out, some of their members play cornhole games at our Post on Sunday afternoons.
Speaking of food, our Post will provide its annual Thanksgiving Dinner cooked by the Ladies of our Post! This meal is truly outstanding! It is free and members can bring their families. It is scheduled for November 22 at 6:00 pm in our Post Hall. Plan to attend.
While you are on the Post web page, click on the Calendar page. Your Social Club hosts two or three bands each month. Also, do you want some company to watch football? It is always on in the Social Club.
The next membership meeting is 2 December 2025 at 7 PM.
Respectfully,
Tony A. Cromwell
